Text Parsing in FileMaker Pro 10 – The PatternCount Function
FileMaker Certified Developer Chad Adams has prepared a series of short videos that describe the robust text parsing capability available in FileMaker Pro 10. This is the fourth video of that series and covers the PatternCount function.
Text functions allow FileMaker Pro to deal with text strings in a meaningful way. A database cannot see the value in a word or sentence. What it can see is a collection of characters strung together like beads on a necklace. Punctuation and white space carry the same a value as letters and numbers. As you develop solutions in FileMaker Pro understanding how to manipulate these strings of text is imperative. The PatternCount function returns the number of times that the specified search string is contained in the text.
