Working in a Live FileMaker Database
‘We work in the live database.’
We hear that all the time but don’t believe most people understand the ramifications. In fact, they’ve probably never even heard of schema locking. In this video, FileMaker Certified Developer Chad Adams walks you through one tricky aspect of schema locking: If you have an auto-entry serial number in your FileMaker database it is all too easy to inadvertently preclude users from creating new records (or creating new records properly).
Along the way, Chad answers several questions, such as:
- What is schema locking?
- How can I use it to my benefit?
- How can I use the ‘On create’ and ‘On commit’ options appropriately?
- What should you cautious of?
- Is it wise to work in a live system?
Thanks Chad!
