Claris updates: Improved security, Claris Connect stability, & FileMaker Server fixes

As we look forward to spring, some important Claris Platform updates are now available. Here’s the latest news for custom software system administrators and developers.

FileMaker Server stability improvements and enhancements

Recent updates to FileMaker Server 2025 (version 22) and FileMaker Server 2024 (version 21) have improved security and performance.

FileMaker Server 2025 – Version 22.0.5

  • Improves security by upgrading Apache Tomcat to version 10.1.47 to address several vulnerabilities.
  • Addresses an installation issue involving the Web Publishing Engine failing on secondary machines after upgrading from version 21 to 22 on macOS.
  • Fixes a character spacing and kerning issue when using the Courier New font in records saved as PDF files.
  • Fixes an issue involving Japanese language input in FileMaker WebDirect.

FileMaker Server 2024 – Version 21.1.7

In addition to the Apache Tomcat upgrade and Japanese language input fix mentioned above, this new release:

  • Improves performance and compatibility by updating the OpenSSL library to version 3.3.5.
  • Enhances security on Microsoft Windows installations by offering an option to disable IIS short filenames via the Windows registry – this cuts off an attack vector where bad actors could use a reserved character to find hidden files or directories.
  • Addresses a security vulnerability in the FileMaker Server Admin console and a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in FileMaker WebDirect.
  • Fixes an issue with the OpenJDK 17 download link in the Admin Console’s Connectors panel.

FileMaker 2024 support is ending. Do you have a plan?

It’s important to keep in mind that while security improvements and updates continue for now, FileMaker 2024 reaches end-of-life this June — about four months from now, as I’m writing this.

Claris now supports FileMaker products for two years after the date of initial release, subject to licensing requirements. Teams that put off updating are missing out on quality-of-life improvements and added features, such as access to Claris Studio and Claris Connect at no extra cost with most licenses. But even if those features aren’t vital to your day-to-day business, the more time that passes, the greater the chance that bad actors may discover a way to compromise systems that haven’t been updated.

Our team has decades of experience not only building custom applications, but updating legacy software built on FileMaker so that your organization can keep running efficiently. Reach out to us today to learn how we can help you get on a current version.

Claris Connect: FileMaker legacy connectors to be retired in June

A recent Claris Community post by Giuliano Iacobelli, VP of product management, reiterates the team’s commitment to making Claris Connect more stable. One source of issues that have impacted users is FileMaker legacy connectors, which weren’t designed for today’s workloads.

The FileMaker Server (Legacy) and FileMaker Cloud (Legacy) connectors are being removed on June 26th. Both are being superseded by the Claris FileMaker connector — an OData connector that’s faster and designed for larger datasets, and which doesn’t require the layout-first architecture that’s been a source of bottlenecks.

Note that in order to use the Claris FileMaker connector, you must be running FileMaker Server 21.1.1 or later.
